Fable's revised counsel: You were right — serifs read beautifully in books and badly on navy screens. The real problem was never our font: it's that we starve it at light weight. Panel B is our same voice fed properly — full weight, a touch larger, a touch brighter — and it beats every import on this page. That's my pick. The one wildcard worth your glance: Panel C, Atkinson Hyperlegible — a typeface engineered by the Braille Institute so that the hardest-to-read letters can't be confused. "We set our words in the typeface designed so no one is left unable to read them" — that's a Day 7 sentence. But if B feels right, B is right: ours, finally at full strength.
